Numbers

What the category analysis showed

Value What it means
Median price 132.05 RON Half the offers in the sample are cheaper, half more expensive. A fairer reference point than the average.
Average price 161.65 RON Sensitive to a few expensive outliers. The gap between average and median shows how stretched the category is.
Typical price band 103.88 RON - 179.46 RON The middle half of the offers (first to third quartile). This is where the game is actually played - outside that band competition is thin.
Price range 30.42 RON - 504.40 RON From the cheapest to the most expensive offer in the sample. Tells you how many price shelves the category holds.
Share of offers in FBE 70% How many offers handed logistics to the platform. A high share raises the delivery-time bar for cross-border shipping.
Median number of reviews 17 How much social proof a typical top-of-listing offer carries. That is what has to be built to compete.
Offers with no reviews 20% How many offers in the sample have no review at all. A high share means a new listing does not start from a lost position.
Level of competition moderate, but with a high logistics bar Assessment from the analysis: how deep you have to go for an offer to be visible at all.

Price with and without FBE

The median of FBE offers differs by -37% from offers without FBE (35 versus 15 offers in the sample). Cheaper FBE offers mean platform fulfilment is a volume-seller tool here, not a premium advantage - entering with FBE means entering the cheaper tier.

Context

What is worth knowing about this category

Department on eMAG.ro: Home & Garden · Seasonality: all year, peaking in autumn and winter

Lighting is one of the widest catalogues on eMAG.ro: from bulbs and LED strips to technical fittings and decorative chandeliers. Buyers reach an offer through listing filters, and those work on data alone: socket type and count, maximum wattage, colour temperature, luminous flux, ingress protection rating, dimensions. A field left empty means an offer invisible to part of the demand - however good the product is.

The measurement shows a settled but not closed category. Prices are clustered: the middle half of the offers fits into a narrow band, even though the extremes differ more than tenfold. Logistics sets the bar: seven out of ten offers in the sample use FBE, which in practice fixes the expected delivery time. Social proof, by contrast, is within reach: a typical offer has a couple of dozen reviews and one in five has none at all.

Three things remain to be costed: packaging and returns (shades and glass parts are fragile in transit, and a damaged parcel costs twice - the goods and the review), the obligations attached to electrical equipment and batteries, and the season - demand rises from September, with a decorative and gifting layer in November and December.

What this analysis does not cover

The numbers above describe the category as a whole. They do not answer where your range sits in it: whether your price lands in the most crowded middle or below the price floor, which competing offers are poorly prepared and where a gap has been left open. That is what a full market analysis does - with rankings, an assessment of offer quality and a recommendation written for your company. Profitability of a single product is calculated in the eMAG profitability calculator.

FAQ

Questions about selling in the Lighting category

You can, but it has to be compensated for. Seven out of ten offers in the sample use FBE, so buyers are used to short delivery times - cross-border shipping has to be fast and predictable enough not to drop out of the comparison.

A typical offer in the sample carries a couple of dozen reviews, while the strongest reaches several hundred. One in five offers has none at all, so the first two dozen reviews move an offer visibly up the field.

The bulk of offers cluster in the middle band rather than at the extremes - exact values are in the table above. Below the lower edge you compete on price alone; above the upper edge the price has to be justified by material, function or a full set of room-setting photos.

Socket type and count, maximum wattage, colour temperature and luminous flux, ingress protection rating for bathroom and outdoor use, and dimensions. These fields feed the listing filters.

Rarely. In the sample, offers in the upper range often have no reviews yet - the segment exists as a price point but lacks established social proof. The healthier order is to build reviews in the middle band first, then add the expensive variant.

Demand climbs from September and adds a decorative and gifting layer in November and December. Offers and stock should be ready before that window.
