Numbers

What the category analysis showed

Value What it means
Median price 66.25 RON Half the offers in the sample are cheaper, half more expensive. A fairer reference point than the average.
Average price 97.34 RON Sensitive to a few expensive outliers. The gap between average and median shows how stretched the category is.
Typical price band 39.90 RON - 109.83 RON The middle half of the offers (first to third quartile). This is where the game is actually played - outside that band competition is thin.
Price range 15.06 RON - 425.70 RON From the cheapest to the most expensive offer in the sample. Tells you how many price shelves the category holds.
Share of offers in FBE 72% How many offers handed logistics to the platform. A high share raises the delivery-time bar for cross-border shipping.
Median number of reviews 15 How much social proof a typical top-of-listing offer carries. That is what has to be built to compete.
Offers with no reviews 32% How many offers in the sample have no review at all. A high share means a new listing does not start from a lost position.
Level of competition moderate - FBE is standard, reviews are unevenly spread Assessment from the analysis: how deep you have to go for an offer to be visible at all.

Context

What is worth knowing about this category

Department on eMAG.ro: Kids & Toys · Seasonality: peaks in Q4 - Black Friday and Christmas

Toys have the most concentrated season of any category: a significant share of annual sales happens between Black Friday and Christmas. For a seller entering the market that means a hard calendar - stock, offers, photography and campaigns have to be ready well in advance, because November leaves no time to build visibility or fix product cards.

It is also the category with the strictest formal requirements among those typically used to start cross-border selling. Toys are covered by their own safety standards and require CE marking, a declaration of conformity, age warnings and instructions in the language of the market, and since 2024 the obligations of the GPSR regulation, including naming a responsible economic operator in the EU. Gaps here do not end in weaker sales - they end with the listing taken down.

A sensible entry runs through niches: creative and educational toys, kids room furnishings and wooden products, where the quality of the product card, photos showing scale and use, and a clearly stated age range decide. Reviews also build quickly here and pay back quickly - worth planning the first listings so they collect ratings before the season.

The measurement shows a logistically demanding but not closed category: 72% of offers use FBE and a typical offer carries a couple of dozen reviews. At the same time one in three offers has no review at all.

What this analysis does not cover

The numbers above describe the category as a whole. They do not answer where your range sits in it: whether your price lands in the most crowded middle or below the price floor, which competing offers are poorly prepared and where a gap has been left open. That is what a full market analysis does - with rankings, an assessment of offer quality and a recommendation written for your company. Profitability of a single product is calculated in the eMAG profitability calculator.

FAQ

Questions about selling in the Toys and kids room category

CE marking, a declaration of conformity, age warnings and instructions in the language of the market, plus the obligations of the GPSR regulation, including naming a responsible economic operator in the EU. Gaps result in the listing being removed, not merely in weaker sales.

Stock, offers and campaigns should be running well before Black Friday, because in November visibility is bought with budget alone. An earlier start has a second benefit: it lets the first reviews accumulate before traffic peaks.

Not on price at the top of the category. The realistic entry is through niches - creative and educational toys, wooden products, kids room furnishings - where the product card, photos showing scale and a clearly stated age range decide.

It is harder - close to three quarters of the offers in the sample use platform fulfilment, and at the peak of the season delivery time decides a gift purchase.

A couple of dozen, more than in furniture or automotive, but one in three offers still has none.

Prices are low and clustered. At that level shipping and returns can eat the entire margin, so basket size and bundling matter.
