How much actually stays in your pocket from every sale on Trendyol in Romania? Commission is only the starting point – the final cost of selling also includes several deductions and currency conversion. How Trendyol charges commission (the model)
Trendyol charges commission on the sale value. You pay commission on the full price the customer bought the product for.
The mechanism is percentage-based and depends on the product category. Electronics, fashion, home and garden or cosmetics all have different rates, because they differ in margin and competition. Before you list an offer, check which category your product lands in – that is what determines the real cost.
- Calculation base – the percentage is applied to the item’s selling price. Commission does not cover the cost of delivering the product to the customer.
- Rate per category – commission varies depending on the category.
- Charged per item – commission is calculated separately for every unit sold, then totalled at order and settlement period level.
An important note about the numbers themselves: specific rates can change – platforms adjust them over time, vary them with campaigns and promotions, and the level depends on the category. That is why this article focuses on the mechanism, which is stable, while every specific value should be treated as something to confirm against the current rate card before you calculate.
If you are still planning your launch, start with the whole process – from registration, through account configuration, to selling on Trendyol step by step. Commission is only one of the elements that have to be built into your business model before the first listing goes up.
Additional fees and deductions
Commission alone is not the only cost. The real „cost of selling” is commission plus a set of deductions that appear depending on your logistics model, returns and how well you meet deadlines. They are worth knowing, because they are what most often eats margin quietly.
- Logistics / fulfilment costs – with your own shipping you bear this cost directly with the carrier.
- Returns and complaints – on a return the commission is adjusted, but return logistics costs may fall on you. A high return rate genuinely raises the cost of selling in a given category.
- Deductions for service quality – cancellations caused by the seller, late shipments or a low account rating can result in penalties or restrictions.
- VAT on platform services – Trendyol does not add tax to commissions and fees (it issues an invoice without VAT). As an EU company you account for that VAT yourself in your own country under the reverse charge. If you are VAT-registered this is neutral for you; if you use a VAT exemption, you have to pay the tax to your local tax office.
- Advertising (Ads) – a separate, optional cost, not part of the commission. You set the promotion budget yourself; we cover the details in the context of Trendyol ADS campaigns.
The good news: most of these deductions are predictable. Once you know the mechanism, you can estimate them in advance and build them into your price – instead of discovering them on your payout statement.
Currency and settlements (payouts, conversion)
The Trendyol we work on is the Romanian market. You sell in Romanian lei (RON) and commission is charged and payouts settled in that currency. That means one extra cost that is easy to forget when planning margin: currency conversion.
Sales proceeds do not reach you immediately. The platform usually holds the payout until delivery is confirmed and the returns window has passed, and then makes the transfer on a set settlement cycle.
- Settlement currency – RON. The price, commission and payout balance are in lei; conversion to PLN or EUR happens only when the money is transferred to your account.
- Payout cycle – payouts are made periodically, after transactions are confirmed – funds whose hold period (the returns window) has passed are settled every Wednesday and reach your bank account every Thursday.
- Cost of currency conversion – this is not a Trendyol fee but the spread and commission of the bank or provider (a currency account or a fintech service, for example) through which you receive RON. With an ordinary bank account it can be a noticeable percentage – a RON currency account lowers it significantly.
- Payout account – settlements usually require an account that supports RON. An EU seller on Trendyol RO has to provide the IBAN of a business account (traditional or virtual, Wise/Revolut for instance) registered to details identical with the company register, operating in RON or EUR and confirmed with an official bank statement showing a SWIFT code.
In practice two identical sales can produce different net results in your account – depending on how you receive and convert lei. It is an element we optimise together with clients as part of running sales on Trendyol.
Pay attention to cash flow as well, not just to cost. Since funds are held temporarily, a gap opens between shipping the goods and the money landing in your account – and it has to be financed from your own working capital. With growing sales that is often more important than small differences in commission, so plan your payout cycle together with your stock levels.
A sample calculation of the cost of selling
The table below is an illustrative example meant to show the method of calculation, not real rates. All percentages and amounts are deliberately notional – yours will depend on category, logistics model and how you convert currency. The goal: to show how much really remains from the price the customer sees.
Let us assume a product sold for 200 RON (an example value):
| Item | Value (example) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Selling price | 200.00 RON | The amount paid by the customer |
| Platform commission (15%, for example) | -30.00 RON | The rate depends on the product category |
| Logistics / shipping (example) | -20.00 RON | Depends on the model and parcel weight |
| Returns reserve (5%, for example) | -10.00 RON | The averaged cost of returns in the category |
| Currency conversion cost (2%, for example) | -4.00 RON | Bank / provider spread, not a Trendyol fee |
| Left to cover goods and margin | 136.00 RON | Before the product’s purchase cost and VAT |
The conclusion from the mechanism is simple: in a setup like this, around 68% of the selling price is left to cover the cost of goods and your margin (in this example). If the product itself costs you more than that amount, the sale is below the line – and you only see it once you add up all the deductions rather than commission alone.
That is why, before you set a price, it is worth doing this calculation with your category’s real rates. If you are comparing Trendyol with another market, remember that in the Trendyol vs. eMAG comparison the differences go further than commissions – the whole cost structure and the settlement currency differ too.
Instead of working through the table by hand, use the interactive calculator – plug in the numbers from your category and the margin is calculated instantly. The default values refer back to the example above. The calculator deducts VAT from the price (your revenue is the net amount) and applies commission and currency conversion to the gross price – exactly as it works on Trendyol.

The default values are an example from this article - replace them with your own. The calculator subtracts VAT from the price (your revenue is the net amount) and charges commission and currency conversion on the gross price - exactly how Trendyol works. Enter amounts in Romanian leu (RON).

Note two things. First, commission and currency conversion are charged on the gross price, so they grow with the price – they are not fixed amounts. Second, VAT is not your revenue, which is why a simple „price minus costs” inflates margin. Advertising cost (Trendyol ADS) is deducted from that result at the level of a single unit – how to plan it is described in the context of Trendyol ADS campaigns.
Frequently asked questions
What amount is Trendyol commission calculated from?
Commission is charged as a percentage of the item’s selling price, not of your profit. The percentage depends on the product category.
Is Trendyol commission refunded when goods are returned?
On a return the sales commission is adjusted, but return logistics costs may stay on your side. In practice a high return rate raises the real cost of selling, which is why we treat it as a separate item in the margin calculation.
Which currency will I be paid in and what does conversion cost?
Settlements on the Romanian market are in lei (RON). The cost of converting to PLN or EUR is not a Trendyol fee but the spread of your bank or provider. An account that supports RON usually lowers that cost significantly compared with standard bank conversion.
Is commission the only cost of selling on Trendyol?
No. Besides commission, logistics costs, a returns reserve, any service quality deductions, VAT on platform services and currency conversion all count. Advertising (Ads) is a separate, optional budget, not part of the commission.
How do you estimate margin before listing an offer?
Take the selling price and deduct the category commission, logistics cost, averaged returns cost and currency conversion. What remains has to cover the purchase cost of the goods and your margin. It is worth doing this calculation on real rates before you launch.
